2026 Lois Hole Hospital for Women $5000 Donation

The Edmonton Korean Canadian Women’s Association (EKCWA) recently visited the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation – Lois Hole Hospital for Women to present a $5,000 donation in support of women’s health initiatives within the community.

This year’s recipients of the “Female Leader of Next Generation Scholarship” also joined the visit, making the occasion especially meaningful. During the tour and meeting with Foundation representatives, the students had the opportunity to learn firsthand how community support and charitable giving can create tangible change in people’s lives. They were also able to witness how EKCWA continues to make a positive impact through its ongoing community engagement and philanthropic efforts.

During the visit, hospital representatives shared updates regarding the expansion of the Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer Clinic. They expressed sincere appreciation for the continued support from EKCWA, along with contributions from many other community organizations and donors, which have helped make the clinic’s growth and operations possible. The clinic is expanding from two half-days per week to three half-days per week on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings. In addition, funding has been secured for a research assistant position over the next two years, support for a Genetic Counsellor, and approximately 300 genetic testing kits annually.

A representative from the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation stated, “Ongoing community support has allowed us to provide essential healthcare services to more women and families in need.”

EKCWA remains committed to supporting future female leaders and continuing its contributions toward the health and well-being of the local community through meaningful outreach and charitable initiatives.

이번 방문에는 올해 ‘Female Leader of Next Generation Scholarship’을 수상한 학생들도 함께 참여해 더욱 뜻깊은 시간을 가졌다. 학생들은 병원 재단 관계자들과의 만남을 통해 지역사회 안에서 기부와 나눔이 실제로 어떤 변화를 만들어내는지 직접 배우는 기회를 가졌다. 또한 EKCWA가 다양한 사회공헌 활동을 통해 커뮤니티에 긍정적인 영향을 만들어 가고 있는 모습도 함께 경험했다.

병원 측은 이번 만남에서 유전성 유방암 및 난소 암 클리닉(Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer Clinic)의 운영 확대 소식을 전하며 감사의 뜻을 전했다. 해당 클리닉은 EKCWA를 비롯한 여러 단체들의 지난 후원과 현재, 그리고 앞으로 이어질 기부금 지원을 통해 운영 및 확장이 가능하게 되었으며, 기존 주 2회 반나절 운영에서 수·목·금요일 오전까지 확대 운영될 예정이다. 또한 향후 2년간 연구 보조 인력 지원과 유전자 상담사(Genetic Counsellor) 지원, 연간 300개의 유전자 검사 키트 제공도 가능하게 되었다고 밝혔다.
